In which year did the Norman Conquest take place?
In 1066, William of Normandy defeated King Harold at the Battle of Hastings, becoming William the Conqueror. It is the most tested date in the whole exam, because it marks the last successful invasion of England.
Why it keeps coming up: it has the highest exam relevance of almost any fact in this chapter. Treat 1066 as non-negotiable.
