What is the minimum age to become a school governor or school board member?
18.
You must be at least 18 on the day you are elected or appointed as a governor or school board member. Unlike jury service, which stops at 70, there is no maximum age. The role welcomes experience. So an 80-year-old can serve as a governor, but could not be called for a jury.
Test Trap. the age rules for school governors (18 or over, no upper limit) are often confused with jury service (18 to 70). Both start at 18, but only jury service has a maximum age.
Why it matters: Test Trap: governors have no upper age limit, whereas jury service runs from 18 to 70.
Memory hook: Governors: 18 and up, no cap. Jurors: 18 to 70, then you stop.
